LEGAL EDUCATION FOR LAWYERS

Lecture in Forensic Evidence

Knowledge and understanding of forensic evidence is becoming increasingly crucial for those who work on criminal cases. Evidence presented in Swedish courts relies heavily on scientific methods – DNA analysis, shoe prints and fingerprints are just a few examples. For a lawyer, this means a need to understand not only the law but also the science behind the evidence.

To represent a client effectively – whether as a defense attorney or counsel for the injured party – you need to understand how forensic investigations are conducted, what their limitations are and what sources of error they involve. Otherwise, you risk being at a loss when expert reports from the National Forensic Center (NFC) are presented as evidence against your client.

Attorney Simon Kjellstrand has specialized expertise in the field of forensic science and lectures on the subject to both attorneys and law students at Swedish universities. These courses provide participants with a practical understanding of how forensic evidence can be interpreted and examined within the criminal justice process.

A training session may include, among other things:

  • an overview of various forensic methods,
  • common sources of error and gaps in the investigative process,
  • how attorneys can use forensic evidence in their litigation, and
  • case studies from actual cases in which forensic evidence has been decisive.
